KZLA Gone- Dees is 'Movin' on!

Hey all!! Well, today I looked in my e-mail, and since I have an account at KZLA's (Country 93.9) in L.A message board, I got an e-mail stating that KZLA was "No More". So being me, I had to know what was up. Since I don't live in LA, I obviously can't get KZLA in. (it was strange cause I was listening to KZLA when I went to camp in June/July) and now it doesn't exist. Anyways, the new station, "Movin' 93.9", is now rythmic hot AC instead of country. (appearantly, they let the staff at KZLA know an hour before they made the switch) so it was a shock to them. (and, many others) in cluding myself. Now not only doesn't LA have a country station, neither does New York, or San Francisco. The only, (yes, only) good thing about this "Move" is that Rick Dees, (formally of 102.7 KIIS FM) in LA, is going to be on board as the morning DJ. (YES!!!!! Finally a good broadcaster hits the air waves in SO Cal!!!) hopefully I can get this station in my area. I use to love Rick Dees on KIIS, and was extremely upset when he left, but Im glad he's back!!!!! :) Thats the only good thing about the switch. Other wise, I'm pretty upset, but I hope for all the staff's sake, (the former Jocks at KZLA) I hope they find other jobs. Even if that means moving out of So Cal. Well, I'd just thought I'd share with y'all.
Any comments/thoughts on this?

oh really? Well the stations I have out here, (cause I can't get the LA ones) there horrible!! They definitely need some work done lol. (I have to turn off my radio when it comes to stations in my area). Hence why I'm obsessed, (or use to be) obsessed with WLIT in Chicago. (but after Melissa left, that's gone down the drain) Wouldn't that be strange if Melissa Forman joined Rick Dees on Movin 93.9 to do mornings? But I highly doubt that will happen. I read somewhere that Rick starts sometime "After Labor Day". And what really doesn't make sence is KZLA is stremeing online starting tomorrow. Why don't they just have the new station stremeing?
I actually can get it in, although it comes in very, very poorly, but still works, and I like it. (no, not just because Rick is coming back, well thats a huge part of why I like this new station lol) but I actually like it. ( and I'm a huge country fan!)

I am a big country fan also, living in Canada. Around here, there are a lot of country stations, and I find it intriguing that they are disappearing in the States. I know country is not nearly as popular as it was. After the boom of the 90's, country has since all but disappeared except for a few notable acts as far as fan base is concerned, at least from what I've been able to gather. I am still with it though. I like Rick Dees from the Weekly Top 40 days. Is that still in existence? I know AT40v now has a hot AC version so I am thinking Rick may be gone? Enlighten me!

Hi! No, it still exists. (its just not in LA) well, it might be now though since he's starting mornings. But Ryan Seacrest (can't stand him!!) now does it, he took over for Rick Dees when CC let him go.

Oh nooooo! I loved KZLA. I grew up in southern California and that was my favorite country station. I suppose there's still KFRG, but ... still. KZLA was awesome! Darn it!

Casey Kasem is a hero. They are re-running his old AT40's on XM, and I am enjoying hearing them.

They run his old top 40 shows on XM? Wish they did that with other DJS who have now disappeared, or are off the air currently. I wonder if there is a site where you can find older archived shows from different DJS? (or Podcasts, at least).

Ah. airchecks amber! Now if you had recorded airchecks your station could live in memory for ever and forever be on tape. I get a lot of country stations here. I have a DX set up with antenna and roter, and have a Yamaha T-85 tuner with sullective filters for FM DXing and airchecking. Here's what I get for country. /brFreq Calls City, state /br92.5 WXTU, Philadelphia, PA (strong signal) /br92.9 WDSB Duvver, DE (somewhat fady signal, is good with trop) /br96.1 WCTO Allentown, PA (Can receive like a local /br98.5 WBBO (Did they change calls?) Ocean Achers, NJ (Can receive signal like a local) /br99.9 WWFG Ocean City, MD (Fady signal, can get well during trop) /br107.3 WPUR Atlantic City , NJ (Can receive like a local)/br Now if anyone wants to trade, I'd love to hear your market! Cassettes are all I can do at the moment./br John

Oh yeah and the format is rhythmic AC, not hot Rhythmic AC, Amber. Just thought I should point that out, smile.

Post 12 by JerseyGirl1989 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Thursday, 24-Aug-2006 19:50:54

Hi!!! Hmmm, I don't think I've airchecked before. (although I use to tape radioshows that I use to like when I was a kid) Does anybody have old Melissa Forman airchecks?
(I have none, so It'd be impossible to trade) I wouldn't record any stations here, simpley because they don't know what they are doing. (they play people's calls or bits of them when a song is playing!)! Anyways, thanks for the correction about the format thing.
They are searching for coe-hosts for Rick Dees, who do you think would be good with Rick?

OOO airchecks of bad radio? Could be interesting. I'm not sure where you live in CA, but I like a few markets... Looking for airchecks of 93 KHJ During its "Car Radio" CHR format in AM Stereo, t and the smoken oldies format on that frek. I'm looking for aairchecks of 102.7 KIIS-FM both current and past... 103.1 Groove Radio and the Indi format on that station Currently... 93.3 KHTS "Channel 93-3" 95.7 KOCL (Oldies), both of those from the San Diego market. Star 100.7 KFMB (Modern AC), Rick Dees airchecks, past and current. What market in CA do you live in? I can get a tun of country as you can see, and I'm sure I can find something of interest in your market if you wish to trade! Its great fun, and I'd love to get into the hobby again.

Well, as I said, the stations in my area well the DJS, at least, aren't the greatest. I'm sure I could get some KIIS airchecks, well present ones, if it comes in, that is. I don't have any Rick Dees airchecks. (I could probably get Channel 93.3) also. I don't know how this whole thing works though. It sounds like fun and an awesome hobby to get into!!! Im just basicly looking for past and present Melissa Forman (from WLIT 93.9 in Chicago airchecks), or from (if anybody has this far back) Melissa Forman when she was on WKIE? If anybody has any, or knows where to get any, feel free to reply here.

I do not have airchecks of her spasificly. It is much fun. Do you get KOCL also? If I paid to ship tapes or cd's to you to record airchecks, would you do that provided I pay for the shipping and blank media? Cause this way I can get stuff from your market, even though you don't seem to want anything current or past from the Philly/Allentown/Atlantic city markets.

Hi!! Well, I don't know. (so I just tape a certain show?) is that how it works? Thanks,
Amber

Post 17 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 26-Aug-2006 12:23:15

Okay let's say I send you a 90 minute blank. YYou turn on the radio, turn on KIIS-FM and hit record, record uninterupted for 90 minutes. Give me the date and time of t he recording, and boom you got an aircheck!

Post 18 by JerseyGirl1989 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 26-Aug-2006 15:25:17

Oh I see. So when you record, it has to be exactly 90 minutes or however long your recording for?
Thanks,
Amber

Well, I can't say I like Rick Dees. I'm glad he's out of my area, but I'm glad you're happy. We've got a country station in my market in California, but it gets interference from another station from L.A.

Post 21 by JerseyGirl1989 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Sunday, 27-Aug-2006 23:32:25

Hmmm. Im just glad Im not protesting lol. I wouldn't wanna be the one out there lol. And, besides, I've heard better DJS then Peter Tilden, Ashley Paige, Shawn Pare, and Whittney Allen. In fact, she use to be on LITE 92.7 way back in the day. Along with Delilah, for a while. Ah! Those we're the nights where I could actually sleep!! After she got taken off, it went back to Whittney hosting nights for a while. Im sad I didn't say anything, but was a kid then, and didn't think much of it. Oh well, LITE 92.7 is gone, JILL has taken it's place, and I can't stand it! (or her!) lol.

Post 22 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 28-Aug-2006 18:04:13

AH. I remember a time in Philly when there were four (Yes four!) AC stations...
101.1 WEZE "EZ 101"
102.9 WMGK "Magic 103"
100.3 WKSZ "Kiss 100"
104.5 WSNI "Sunny 104"
Back in the later 80's

Of corse this is when two top 40 stations would compete.
102.1 WIOQ "Q102"
106.1 WEGX "Eagle 106"
of corse, we all know who won on that scope. Q of corse, even though in my opinion Eagle was a better station all around. Eagle 106 was more mainstream CHR, as apposed to Q who was more rhythmic. Now both, at the time had good imageing. Mark Driskel did imageing/programming for Q102. Not sure who programmed/imaged Eagle though.
